Chengdu, China – Tickets have already gone on sale for the first train operating on the new Xi’an to Chengdu high-speed railway. The initial run will see 19 trains operate on the line in each direction starting from December 6.
The inspection phase was carried out in November when authorities announced that they expected the railway to open before the end of the year.
The new route will reduce the journey time between Xi’an and Chengdu to just three hours.
Chengdu has been experiencing huge investment in recent years, with last year’s announcement of a railway linking the city with Tibet as part of a drive to turn Chengdu into a transport hub.
