Yangon, Myanmar – Japan’s Ambassador to Myanmar, Ichiro Maruyama, has said that Japan will provide assistance to the Government of Myanmar through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
According to a report in the Myanmar Times, JICA and Myanmar’s Ministry of Transport and Communication have drafted a development for Yangon’s urban transport development from 2016 to 2035.
The project, known as Yangon 2040, is a multi-transport plan that includes the construction of a 27 kilometre long railway running north to south and a 25 kilometre railway running east to west through the city.
The JICA and Ministry are currently conducting a feasibility study on the plan after an initial study was completed in August 2017. A final report will be published at the end of this year.
