Singapore – The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the final civil contract for Circle Line 6 (CCL6) for the construction of Cantonment Station to the Singapore branch of China State Construction Engineering at a contract sum of $150 million.
The construction of the three-level underground station along Keppel Road will commence by the end of 2017 and be completed in 2025. Cantonment Station will be built with a Civil Defence shelter, the 12th Civil Defence shelter on the Circle Line (CCL).
China State Construction Engineering is an established contractor which has completed many railway infrastructure projects in Singapore and China. It most recently completed the construction of Downtown Line 3’s Kaki Bukit and Geylang Bahru Stations, and is currently involved in the design and construction of North-South Line’s Canberra Station. It is also in a joint venture with Nishimatsu Construction to construct the CCL6 Keppel Station and tunnels.
In total, LTA has awarded approximately $1.7 billion worth of contracts for the civil construction of Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Stations, associated tunnels and Kim Chuan Depot extension for CCL6. Works are expected to commence by the end of 2017 and be completed in 2025.
The CCL6 is four kilometres long and will have three stations, Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward. It will close the loop for the CCL by connecting Harbour Front Station to Marina Bay Station. When the CCL6 stations are completed in 2025, the CCL will have a total of 33 stations, including 12 interchange stations with other MRT lines. It will also expand the rail network to areas such as Spottiswoode and the southern edge of our existing CBD.
With CCL6, commuters will enjoy a direct route between areas in the west, such as Pasir Panjang and Kent Ridge, key employment areas in the Central Business District, and upcoming developments in the Marina Bay area. Commuters travelling from areas such as Paya Lebar and Mountbatten will also enjoy quicker and more direct access to the retail and office centres in the HarbourFront area.
