A new high-speed railway segment connecting Chongzuo and Pingxiang in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region officially opened Friday, completing a fast passenger corridor from regional capital Nanning to the China-Vietnam border.
The 81-kilometer line, designed for speeds up to 250 kilometers per hour, reduces travel time between Nanning and Pingxiang to 75 minutes—178 minutes faster than conventional rail service. The route integrates with the existing Nanning-Chongzuo section that opened in December 2022.
China State Railway Group will initially operate four daily round-trip trains on the new segment. Through connections at Nanning’s rail hub, passengers can now access major Guangxi cities including Liuzhou, Guilin, and Beihai. The line employs flexible, market-based pricing to accommodate diverse passenger needs.
The railway brings high-speed rail service for the first time to Pingxiang, Ningming, and Longzhou, strengthening infrastructure connectivity in border areas. Travel agencies have already introduced weekend cross-border tour packages targeting demand for short outbound trips to Vietnam.
As a key project in China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, the railway enhances regional mobility and supports development of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. Guangxi’s strategic location makes it a critical gateway for exchange and cooperation between China and Southeast Asian nations.
The opening follows the December 2023 launch of high-speed rail service between Fangchenggang and Dongxing, another Guangxi border city, marking continued expansion of China’s rail network toward ASEAN connectivity.
