Bangkok, Thailand – Thailand is expected to select the winning bidder for its ambitious, $6.9 billion high-speed airport rail link project in January 2019. The high-speed railway will link Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport in the north of the city and Suvarnbhumi airport in the southeast of the city with a third international airport on the eastern seaboard.
There are 31 different companies from Thailand, China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Italy and France all considering the project. Thailand’s state railway operator, SRT, had the project approved in principle by The Eastern Economic Corridor Board back in February this year. Half of the companies are from Thailand, with several more from China and Japan, including Hitachi
This project is expected to help galvanise the Eastern Economic Corridor, we spoke to Dr Ruth Banomyong about this very topic recently.
