Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT will conduct major track connection works for the new East Coast Integrated Depot (ECID) from December 7-10, 2024, requiring service suspension between Tanah Merah and Tampines stations on the East-West Line (EWL).
The operation involves removing approximately 80 meters of existing tracks, sleepers, and third rail infrastructure along the EWL viaduct. New turnout tracks will be installed to connect with the ECID reception track, followed by third rail and power cable reinstallation. The work requires comprehensive testing of signaling, power, and communications systems.
LTA reports that structural works for the ECID, which will be the world’s first integrated four-in-one depot, are nearly complete. The facility will house three train depots and one bus depot within a single site. Current work focuses on rail track fitting and installation of electrical, mechanical, and system services.
When operational in 2026, the ECID will enhance rail network resilience by increasing capacity for train launches and withdrawals, improving service pattern flexibility and disruption management.
Additional track connection works are scheduled for 2025 and 2026 to complete the installation and prepare for depot operations. Further details will be announced closer to the dates.
