MTR Corporation has opened two new platforms at Airport Station on the Airport Express line, providing direct rail access to Hong Kong International Airport’s newly operational Terminal 2.
Platforms 3 and 4 entered service on 20 May 2026, ahead of T2’s full departure facilities opening on 27 May. When Airport Express trains arrive at the station, doors open on both sides simultaneously, allowing passengers to proceed to either Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 via directional signage.
T2’s new departure facilities include eight check-in aisles and over 170 counters, with a dedicated self-service zone equipped with smart check-in kiosks and automated express bag drop counters. Around 15 airlines operating mainly short-haul and regional routes are relocating to Terminal 2 in phases, with Hong Kong Express, Hong Kong Airlines, and Greater Bay Airlines among the confirmed carriers.
From 31 May, the Airport Express began accepting contactless bank cards and QR code e-wallets at new entry and exit gates, completing the rollout of electronic fare payment across MTR’s entire heavy rail network. The new gates carry the line’s signature teal colour and feature a slimmer profile to widen passenger walkways.
Refurbishment of station corridors at Hong Kong, Kowloon, and AsiaWorld-Expo stations has also been completed. Until 26 August, the Airport Express Morning Express fare of HK$25 between Kowloon or Tsing Yi and Hong Kong Station has been extended to an all-day offer.
