A High Speed Rail sleeper train service connecting the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station with Beijing and Shanghai was launched on 15 June. The four sleeper trains departed from the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, Beijingxi Station and Shanghaihongqiao Station punctually and arrived at their respective destinations on time the following morning. Operations of the sleeper trains connecting Hong Kong to Beijing and Shanghai were smooth during the first weekend since its launch with passengers experiencing the upgraded cross boundary railway service first-hand and enjoying the reliability and convenience of the overnight service.

To celebrate the service commencement of the sleeper trains connecting Hong Kong to Beijing and Shanghai, Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation, Dr Jacob Kam, along with members of the Corporation’s senior management and government representatives attended events and distributed souvenirs in the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station two days in a row to see off passengers taking the first sleeper trains from Hong Kong to Beijing and Shanghai, followed by greeting the arriving passengers who took the first trains from Beijing and Shanghai to Hong Kong.

During the first weekend of operations, passengers of the sleeper trains included travellers, students participating in an internship tour, Legislative Council members, media, MTR staff and other members of the public and they had positive responses to the new service. The overnight sleeper train service allows passengers to make the best use of and accurately assess their journey time for planning their business or travel itineraries.
