The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced that Punggol Coast station, the newest addition to the North East Line (NEL), will commence passenger service on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 3:00 PM. This extension from Punggol station will serve as the new terminal for the NEL, bringing the total number of stations on the 22-kilometer line to 17.
Situated in the Punggol Digital District (PDD), the new station will enhance rail connectivity to key areas including the JTC Business Park and Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) campus. These developments are expected to accommodate over 28,000 employees and 12,000 students. The station will also serve the forthcoming Punggol Coast Mall.
The LTA reports that with this new station, more than 200,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk of a NEL station. Travel times from Punggol North to other parts of Singapore will be reduced. For example, the journey from Punggol North to Outram Park is estimated to take about 45 minutes on the NEL, compared to the current 60-minute travel time.
Construction of Punggol Coast station began in 2018. The station was transferred to SBS Transit in August 2024 for operational testing and preparation for passenger service.
The station features two entrances: one on New Punggol Road and another within the PDD. To support sustainable mobility, more than 300 bicycle parking spaces have been provided. The station is also in proximity to a nearby bus interchange.
Designed by the LTA’s in-house team, the station’s construction was jointly managed by LTA and JTC. The facility aims to achieve the Building and Construction Authority’s Green Mark Certification for its energy-efficient design, which includes LED lighting and a hybrid cooling system.
