About Hyunkyu Jun

Hyunkyu Jun graduated the Graduate School of Mechanical Engineering Department of Sungkyunkwan University in 1998. He has a Ph.D. with the thesis named “A study on the integrity evaluation of nuclear piping using AI technology”. He began as a full time professor teaching automotive engineering in the Hanzhong University from 1999 to 2003, and then moved to Korea Railroad Research Institute. Since then, he has been researching the various problems which occur during railway operations.
His research focuses on the integrity evaluation of aged railroad vehicles, data-based risk analysis method development, human factor for railroad operations, and engineering software development to mitigate the effort which is required to field engineer. Hyunkyu Jun was also a team leader of fatigue and damage analysis from 2015 to 1018, and lead the R&D Strategy division of the institute from 2021 to 2022.
Currently, he is working as a Chief Researcher in the Railway Safety Research Department for the safety improvement of railway operation.
