To further strengthen its commitment to transform mobility and meet Asia-Pacific’s increasing demands from its growing urban cities for efficient and reliable mass transport solutions, Siemens Mobility Asia-Pacific (“SMO”) office has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) with Singapore’s MSI Global Pte. Ltd. during the InnoTrans 2024 that is taking place in Berlin, Germany from 24 to 27 September.
Siemens Mobility Asia-Pacific and Singapore’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Michel Obadia, said: “With this new MoU signed, our partners will benefit from the full suite of Siemens Mobility technologies and rail expertise to ensure sustainable development and optimized lifecycle costs of rail networks in the region.
We will continue to collaborate with local, regional and global rail ecosystem to develop capabilities that are tailored for the needs of the community, maintaining safety and reliability in performance while delivering optimal passenger experience”.
Three-Pronged Approach for a Collaborative Partnership to Grow Singapore’s Rail Capabilities for Global Networks
The MoU with MSI Global Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Singapore’s Land Transport Authority, was signed on the 24th September 2024 in Berlin, Germany during InnoTrans 2024. This MoU will adopt a three-pronged strategy to effectively execute the collaborative partnership that will develop rail capabilities for global networks –
i. Collectively identifying industry challenges
MSI Global and Siemens Mobility will embark on a challenge-driven partnership to drive breakthrough innovations for tackling salient challenges in the rail industry and unlock new opportunities for local and global rail development.
ii. Creating new discussion platforms to promote local and cross-border initiatives
New platforms will be created as a catalyst for proactive discussions on joint ventures and cross-border initiatives that integrate rail technology expertise like infrastructure-in-the-cloud catered for local operating needs.
iii. Establishing frameworks for co-creation of rail innovations.
Frameworks for the sharing of industry best practices and co-develop innovations will be established for a more co-ordinated effort in co-creating solutions that will address the evolving demands in the digitalization of local and global rail networks’ safety enhancement as well as cost-efficiencies and business sustainability of rail operations.

Longstanding Relationship with Asia-Pacific’s Rail Ecosystem
Siemens Mobility’s Asia-Pacific regional headquarters is located in Singapore and supported by more than 2,700 rail professionals across Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam, and has been transforming the rail technologies for the world’s most populated region for more than four decades.
These agreements build on the already well-established relationship Siemens Mobility has within the region and in Singapore, with noteworthy projects like:
– Singapore Cross Island Line’s signalling and electrification contracts awarded in 2023 and 2024,
– Singapore’s Jurong Region Line’s signalling and electrification contracts awarded in 2020 and 2022,
– 23-year Long-term service support contract for Singapore’s Downtown Line signalling system awarded earlier in 2024,
– First CBTC technology installed on a cross-border link for Malaysia Johor Bahru-Singapore’s cross-border Rapid Transit System awarded in 2021
