Ho Chi Minh City authorities have been finalising the feasibility study and engineering design for the Thu Thiem–Long Thanh railway ahead of a planned groundbreaking, according to the Vietnam News Agency. The instruction came from Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee Bui Xuan Cuong following a site inspection. The line will connect Long Thanh International Airport with downtown Ho Chi Minh City and Tan Son Nhat International Airport, running through both Ho Chi Minh City and neighbouring Dong Nai province. It follows the groundbreaking of Metro Line 2’s Ben Thanh–Thu Thiem section earlier this year.
Hanoi breaks ground on five metro lines
Hanoi has begun construction simultaneously on five urban railway lines, part of a push toward substantial completion by the end of the decade, city officials said. The move was folded into a wider 100-year Capital Master Plan, which sets out a longer-term ambition for an expanded urban rail network, alongside expanded ring roads and transit-oriented development around stations. Officials described the plan as marking a shift from building individual lines to establishing a synchronised network.
