Spain’s Renfe International Projects has entered into a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Japan’s Central Japan Railway Company, marking a significant partnership between two of the world’s leading high-speed rail operators as they seek to strengthen their presence in international markets.
The memorandum of cooperation, signed on June 2, establishes a framework for regular exchanges of technical information and personnel between the companies. The collaboration will focus on railway research and development, operation and maintenance of both high-speed and conventional rail lines, and the joint exploration of opportunities in global markets.
Both organizations bring substantial expertise to the partnership. Spain operates the world’s second-largest high-speed rail network with 3,973 kilometers of track in service, trailing only China and surpassing Japan in total network length. This extensive infrastructure, combined with Renfe’s proven operational capabilities, has positioned the Spanish railway model as a benchmark for international expansion.
The alliance reflects the companies’ shared ambition to identify synergies that will enable joint participation in high-value international projects.
